New Franklin Mayor Al Bollas was elected 2010 chairman of the Policy Committee of the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS). The Policy Committee is composed of 44 officials representing local municipalities, counties, transit agencies, and the Ohio Department of Transportation. It is responsible for deciding how federal transportation funds are spent in the Greater Akron area. METRO Executive Director Bob Pfaff was elected to serve as vicechairman.

Regional planning agency awards $28 million to local transportation projects

Twenty-nine projects in the Greater Akron area will receive $28 million in federal funds thanks to the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS). While the bulk of the funds will be used to maintain the area’s existing roads – roughly $4 million to repaving alone – a significant share is committed to expanding the area’s network of bike trails.
