Akron’s District-Wide Travel Plan is Complete

The Akron Public Schools District-Wide Travel Plan is completed as part of the Safe Routes to School program administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).  The Akron School Travel Plan includes all 41 Kindergarten through 8th grade schools (K-8) in the Akron Public School System and is one of the first district-wide School Travel Plans of this scale in Ohio and nationwide.  The goal of the program is to enable and encourage children to walk and bicycle to school by implementing projects and activities that improve the health and safety of children.  The School Travel Plan will serve as a foundation for the City of Akron in applying for Safe Routes to School funds and provide a framework for other communities in the region to develop a Safe Routes to School Plan.
