AMATS challenges city of Akron employees during National Bike-To-Work Week May 14-May 20

Commuter Challenge

AMATS is challenging city of Akron employees to get on their bikes during the week of May 14 in celebration of National Bike-to-Work Week.  Our agency invites you to participate in our Commuter Challenge to promote cycling as a sustainable form of transportation in our area.

We will be giving away prizes to commuters who log the most time commuting on their bikes.  Registrants will receive a free Switching-Gears water bottle from AMATS just for signing up.

The Top Six participants will receive the following prizes:

To get started, just print and complete a registration form.  Completed forms must be submitted to AMATS by May 14.  Forms may also be submitted to AMATS in-person, by fax at 330-375-2275 and by email to PJividen@akronohio.gov.

AMATS will also host Energizer Stations at various locations during the month of May.  Cyclists can stop at these stations to learn about the initiatives that AMATS is undertaking to promote cycling in the Greater Akron area including the upcoming Switching-Gears web site.  Participants may request a list of station locations after registering for Commuter Challenge.

Other activities include a free Bicycle Commuting Workshop hosted by Akron Traffic Engineer Andy Davis scheduled for Saturday, May 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Summit Cycling Center located at 530 S Main Street, Room #1715 in Akron.

The agency is turning more of its attention to cycling in its approach to transportation planning in addition to other forms of vehicular traffic.  This approach is necessary given the increased public interest in cycling.
