Clearing the Air About CMAQ

Applications for the statewide Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) Program are now available through AMATS until the end of July.

The federal CMAQ Program supports transportation improvement projects that reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and help urban areas achieve federal clean air standards.  CMAQ funds are available for new projects in fiscal years 2027 and 2028.

For more information about the application process and eligible projects, please view the links below:

Eligible applicants within the Greater Akron area of Portage and Summit counties and the northeastern portion of Wayne County should submit an electronic copy of their application(s) to AMATS Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Coordinator Dave Pulay by 4 p.m. on July 28, 2023.

Project applications received by AMATS will be processed, scored, and ranked by the Technical Advisory Committee TIP Subcommittee.  The subcommittee will then develop a list of projects to be recommended for funding.  The draft list of projects will be presented to the AMATS Policy Committee for consideration and approval at the committee’s Aug. 10 meeting.

Mr. Pulay and AMATS Engineer Amy Prater are available to assist potential project sponsors throughout the application process.  Please feel free to contact AMATS at 330-375-2436 or email Mr. Pulay at dpulay@akronohio.gov or Ms. Prater at aprater@akronohio.gov for additional information.
