It’s time for the AMATS Annual Meeting! Please note that registration for the 2023 Annual Meeting ends Friday, Sept. 29. This year’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
The day’s featured speakers include Michelle May, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Highway Safety Program manager, and Dan Rice, the president and chief executive officer of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition (OECC).
May has been a member of the ODOT for more than 34 years, serving in communication and program management roles. For the past 15 years, she has managed the department’s $185 million Highway Safety Program, which provides technical expertise and funding to state and local governments to prevent severe crashes on Ohio roads. She also manages a statewide coalition of organizations focused on reducing traffic deaths and serious injuries – including those involving distracted driving, speeding, pedestrians, and young drivers.
Since 1994, during Rice’ time with the OECC, he has worked with over 150 community partnerships and raised over $75 million in development funds for the development of the 101-mile, multi-use Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area. The coalition also serves as the convener for Akron Reimagining the Civic Commons, a $40 million investment in public space, park, and trail improvements along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Akron
May and Rice will describe the achievements and challenges facing their respective programs and coalitions. We look forward to seeing you in October!
