What's New

Our Regional Transportation Future

What is our transportation future in Greater Akron?  In Ohio?  In all likelihood, the next twenty years are going to be very different from the preceding twenty years.  We are going to have to learn to adapt to changing demographic conditions and fiscal realities, as our region and state evolve.  Here in a region with a declining population, we will need to focus on maintaining the infrastructure that we already have, rather than building new.  We will need to give serious thought to a new way of doing things; of creating a built environment that makes it easier, not harder, for our residents to walk, bike, and use public transportation.  We will most likely need to do more with less; creatively addressing revenue shortfalls, while strategically investing in transportation improvements that reflect the needs of a changing region.

We are up to the challenge.  We are quite proud of our reputation as a place that diverse communities can come together and work for the common good.  We are innovative and collaborative, and we think that even the greatest thing can be done better.  We’re interested in being a force for positive change in Greater Akron, and in coming up with great ideas, regardless of who gets the credit.  We want to see every community in this region succeed.

This presentation discusses some of the challenges and opportunities that are ahead of us.  We welcome your input and we sincerely want to work with you to make this region a better place. Please let us know how we can help!
